Abstract
This study aims to describe the pragmatic markers, meanings, and functions of sarcastic humor found in posts and comments on the Instagram account @Laporpak_trans7 during the period of August–September 2025. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method with observation and note-taking techniques, and the data are analyzed using an integrative discursive pragmatic approach that connects linguistic aspects, pragmatic meanings, and sociocultural contexts. The findings reveal that sarcastic humor markers appear in expressions such as “tanah kuburan diambil 😭😭😂” (“the government might take graveyards too”), “mirip kakak sadewo 😂😂😂” (“looks like brother Sadewo”), “jangan baper klo jadi DPR🤣” (“don’t be too sensitive if you’re a parliament member”), “ani-ani 🤣🤣”, and “nggak dipublish🤭” (“not published”). In terms of pragmatic meaning, sarcastic humor represents extreme satire (hyperbole), identity-based ridicule through wordplay, direct criticism of parliament members, mockery of greed and officials’ lifestyles, and criticism of non-transparent government policies. Regarding its pragmatic functions, sarcastic humor serves as an emotional release toward government policies, a directive reprimand to public officials, a representation of the people’s voice regarding parliamentary performance, a form of social critique of officials’ privileges, and a reaction to public dissatisfaction with governmental actions. Overall, sarcastic humor on social media functions not merely as entertainment but also as a critical discourse strategy and a form of linguistic democracy through which people negotiate power and express social criticism in a creative and polite manner.
