This study aims to analyze the trends of ESD research in Indonesia, Singapore and Japan based on several major themes, namely Culture and Social, Environmental and Energy, Policy and Regulation, and Technology and AI for Supporting ESD. The study employed a literature review approach by analyzing scientific articles from various national and international universities. The findings reveal that the implementation of ESD has evolved toward a multidisciplinary approach emphasizing the integration of local culture, ecological literacy, character education, educational policy, and digital transformation. Previous studies demonstrate that experience-based learning, inquiry learning, ethnopedagogy, and the utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) can enhance students’ critical thinking, creativity, digital literacy, social awareness, and environmental responsibility. Furthermore, the successful implementation of ESD is strongly influenced by the synergy among educational policies, local cultural values, technological innovation, and active community participation. Therefore, ESD should not merely be understood as environmental education, but rather as a process of social transformation that supports holistic and contextual sustainable development.
A. Japan has demonstrated strong performance in both SDG implementation and the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), raising interest in the educational factors underlying these achievements. This study examines the contribution of Integrated Learning Time, an inquiry-based and interdisciplinary learning framework in the Japanese curriculum, to the development of sustainability competencies and academic performance. Using a qualitative document analysis approach, data were collected from MEXT policy documents, OECD reports, PISA 2022 results, the Sustainable Development Report 2025, and relevant scholarly literature. The findings indicate that Integrated Learning Time promotes critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and global citizenship through authentic, real-world learning experiences. These competencies align closely with the principles of ESD and contribute to both educational quality and sustainable development outcomes. The study concludes that Integrated Learning Time offers a valuable model for integrating sustainability education with academic excellence and may provide insights for educational reform in other countries
Katsuhisa Shirai Copyright (c) 2026 Katsuhisa Shirai https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0 2026-05-31 2026-05-31 13 22 10.19105/ejpis.v2i.24824 Identifying the Potential of Berhala Island as a Tourist Attraction and Historical Education Site Sustaining https://ejournal.uinmadura.ac.id/index.php/entita/article/view/24400
This study aims to explore the potential of Berhala Island as a historical educational tourism destination for the public, students, university students, and teachers. Berhala Island is an entry point to the Riau Islands Province and has historical and cultural significance. The uniqueness of this island lies in its historical heritage related to Jambi Province. The research method used was descriptive qualitative, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that Berhala Island possesses historical relics connected to the origins of the Jambi kingdom, namely the Tomb of Datuk Paduko Berhala. In addition, the island also preserves evidence of the Japanese occupation in Jambi, such as Japanese cannons, kitchens, and bunkers. These historical remains can serve as valuable educational tourism attractions. Furthermore, the natural beauty of Berhala Island supports the development of experience-based history learning and the preservation of local culture for younger generations and the wider community.
Apdelmi Reka Seprina Copyright (c) 2026 Apdelmi, Reka Seprina https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0 2026-05-30 2026-05-30 23 32 10.19105/ejpis.v2i.24400 Internalisasi Nilai-Nilai Keberlanjutan dalam Film Gerakan Sadar Energi: Pulau Bintang sebagai Media Transformasi Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) https://ejournal.uinmadura.ac.id/index.php/entita/article/view/24430
This study was motivated by the importance of learning media that integrates Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) values to build students’ energy awareness and ecological responsibility. It aims to analyze the construction of energy awareness—covering solar energy, biogas, water wheels, and electric bicycles—and to identify the representation of ESD values in the film Gerakan Sadar Energi: Pulau Bintang (Energy Awareness Movement: Star Island). Using a qualitative approach with content analysis, the study examined dialogues, scenes, and visual symbols through note-taking techniques. The results show that the film presents the use of solar energy, water wheels, electricity-generating bicycles, and biogas as sustainable energy sources. It constructs energy awareness through concrete and participatory experiences linking human actions to environmental sustainability. The film’s visual and narrative representations integrate cognitive, affective, and behavioral dimensions, making it a potential learning medium to support reflective and sustainable ESD implementation in formal education.
Aldi Firnanda Moh.
Puri is the residence of the Kshatriya dynasty, while Griya is the residence of the Brahmin dynasty. Puri and Griya represent habitus and capital that can serve as arenas for preserving Balinese culture. The purpose of this study is to analyze habitus and capital in Puri and Griya based on Bourdieu's theory of social practice, as well as to analyze cultural inheritance through informal education in Puri and Griya. The research paradigm is qualitative ethnography. The research subjects are one extended Puri and Griya family selected using purposive sampling techniques. The research objects are social practices learned informally. Data collection techniques use participatory observation, in-depth naturalistic interviews, documentation, and FGDs, with semi-structured instruments. Data analysis uses ethnographic techniques, namely triangulation, which includes description, analysis, and interpretation. The essence of the ethnography obtained is that Puri and Griya are a habitus with the power of economic, social, cultural, and symbolic capital. The power of these diverse forms of capital shapes social practices in the form of informal education that both teach and preserve elements of Balinese culture, such as refined Balinese, Old Javanese, Sanskrit, knowledge systems, social organization, religious systems, and the arts.
Ida Bagus Weda Wigena Komang Alit Wahyuni Ida Bagus Arya Lawa Manuaba Arif Sobirin Wibowo Ida Ayu Made Putri Arini Copyright (c) 2026 Ida Bagus Weda Wigena, Komang Alit Wahyuni, Ida Bagus Arya Lawa Manuaba, Arif Sobirin Wibowo, Ida Ayu Made Putri Arini https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0 2026-05-30 2026-05-30 63 72 10.19105/ejpis.v2i.24395 Kontribusi Lembaga Keagamaan dalam Sustainable Development Goals: Analisis Peran Lembaga Pendidikan Muhammadiyah di Indonesia https://ejournal.uinmadura.ac.id/index.php/entita/article/view/24459
Religious institutions are not limited to being a place to internalize religious values, another vital function is to participate in improving the quality of education for the better with or without assistance from the government. The review synthesizes findings from reputable scientific journals to identify conceptual developments, influencing factors, and research gaps. The results indicate that teacher well-being in ESD remains largely conceptual and fragmented, with limited integration into sustainable education frameworks, as existing literature predominantly emphasizes student outcomes and pedagogical effectiveness. Teacher well-being is shaped by individual factors, such as self-efficacy and emotional regulation; organizational factors, including workload and institutional support; and pedagogical demands that often lead to role overload. Furthermore, the integration of Tat Twam Asi values serves as a social and moral resource that strengthens empathy, solidarity, and psychological safety thereby supporting the eudaimonic well-being of teachers and contributing to sustainable educational practices.
Brendan Gionino Soesanto Ida Bagus Adhi Sukma Ni Made Sukma Anggreni Adelia Rahmawati Sjaheru Sri Utari Yoan Septisari Toelle Puspito Hadi Copyright (c) 2026 Ni Made Sukma Anggreni, Brendan Gionino Soesanto, Ida Bagus Adhi Sukma, Adelia Rahmawati Sjaheru, Sri Utari, Yoan Septisari Toelle, Puspito Hadi https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0 2026-05-31 2026-05-31 95 104 10.19105/ejpis.v2i.24455 Phubbing Behaviour: An Analysis of Triggers and the Impact on Social Interaction in the Digital Age https://ejournal.uinmadura.ac.id/index.php/entita/article/view/24456
This study examines phubbing as a social phenomenon through the framework of politeness theory, focusing on how it triggers Face Threatening Acts (FTA) and the factors shaping individuals’ responses. Previous research has primarily explored the psychological and relational impacts of phubbing, limited attention has been given at how individuals negotiate face in naturally occurring interactions. To fill this gap, this study uses a qualitative method with semistructured interviews with 25 people aged 15-30 who have been phubbed. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify types of FTA and contributing factors. This study aims to explore the types of face threats caused by phubbing and the factors influencing individuals’ responses to such behavior. The findings show that phubbing can threats positive and negative face. Positive face threats involve feelings of being ignored and unappreciated, leading to indirect responses, while negative face threats involve irritation and disrupted autonomy, prompting more direct reactions. Additionally, the study identifies several key factors influencing responses, including relational closeness, interlocutor personality, prior consent, and conversational context. This study highlights phubbing as a face threat that provokes diverse response patterns influenced by interpersonal and situational variables. Using Spradley's ethnographic framework consisting of domain analysis, taxonomy, components, and cultural themes data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews with ten purposively selected informants, and documentation. Findings indicate that interaction patterns are harmonious and associative, supported by a local social contract, cross-ethnic reciprocal cooperation, and 25 years of uninterrupted interfaith activities. Key barriers include language differences, cultural gaps, structural limitations in inter-village activities, population growth, and psychological distance. Solutions center on intensifying communal activities, strengthening religious cohesion, developing adaptive attitudes, and optimizing village governance. Four cultural themes underlie the harmonization: the local social contract, unity in diversity, religion as a transcendent bridge, and harmonization as a collective effort. These findings have implications for Education for Sustainable Development, particularly SDG 4, SDG 10, and SDG 16, suggesting that local wisdom systems can inform multicultural education frameworks and national resilience policies
Rahmad Ellen Herdiansyah M. The study aims to address the limitations of existing scholarly mapping that integrates ecological awareness with Islamic pedagogical frameworks, in light of the growing urgency of environmental ethics in global education. A bibliometric analysis was conducted on 2,119 Scopus-indexed journal articles, filtered by theme, language and document type, and visualised using VOSviewer. The results indicate a significant increase in academic interest in ecology-based Islamic education, particularly during the 2020–2024 period. The United States, Australia, and Spain are the main contributors, whilst Indonesia is beginning to play a strategic role in international collaboration. Emerging themes include eco-theology, green curricula, teacher training, and place-based learning. However, the representation of Islamic values in environmental education literature remains relatively low. Technological limitations and academic inequalities in developing countries also influence global participation. The originality of this research lies in its interdisciplinary approach, which systematically integrates two academic fields. Recommendations include strengthening cross-regional collaboration, integrating Islamic values such as tawhid and amanah into environmental education, and developing ecological literacy based on local spirituality to support sustainable education.
Abd Mannan Emna Laisa Nurul Shafarina Copyright (c) 2026 Abd Mannan, Emna Laisa, Nurul Shafarina https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0 2026-05-30 2026-05-30 221 232 10.19105/ejpis.v2i.24449 Food Sovereignty and Indigenous Resilience: A Hermeneutic Study of Baduy’s Leuit https://ejournal.uinmadura.ac.id/index.php/entita/article/view/24437
Global food systems instability requires a rediscovery of indigenous wisdom to build community resilience. This study examines the Leuit (Baduy traditional granary) in Uten Sutendy’s novel, Baduy Sebuah Novel, focusing on its socio-religious and pedagogical roles. Using a qualitative-interpretative method grounded in cultural semiotics, this study analyzes how the Leuit serves as both a symbolic and practical tool for food sovereignty. The findings reveal that the Leuit is more than physical storage, it is a sacred site where Pikukuh (ancestral tenets) and the myth of Dewi Sri create an indigenous ethics of sustainability. These values offer a transformative framework for social studies education by providing a practical model of ecological governance. Furthermore, integrating these indigenous philosophies into the national curriculum supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 (Zero Hunger) through decentralized, community-based food security. By repositioning the granary as a living curriculum, this study provides a critical alternative to modern consumption-driven food system, ensuring long-term national resilience
Ita Rodiah Copyright (c) 2026 Ita Rodiah https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0 2026-05-30 2026-05-30 233 242 10.19105/ejpis.v2i.24437 Cultural Literacy in Literary Learning: Enhancing Students’ Figurative Language Analysis through Discovery Learning https://ejournal.uinmadura.ac.id/index.php/entita/article/view/24464
This study examines the effectiveness of the Discovery Learning model in enhancing students' ability to analyze figurative language in short stories. This study aims to identify sustainability values related to the relationship between humans and the environment and their relationship to the principles of sustainable development in Ahmad Tohari's novel. The method used is descriptive qualitative with library research. Data collection was carried out through reading and note-taking techniques. The results show that Ahmad Tohari's novel contains ESD values that represent the relationship between humans, the environment, and social systems. Teak forest management reflects the economic dimension while also demonstrating social inequality in the control of natural resources. Infrastructure development, such as bridges and irrigation channels, demonstrates complex ecological and social impacts in the development process. In addition, local wisdom in managing natural resources illustrates sustainable practices based on traditional knowledge. The environmental narrative in the novel emphasizes the importance of balance between exploitation and conservation of nature. Thus, literary works have the potential as educational media in instilling sustainability values according to ESD principles.

Novia Shafa Dwijayanti Aldi Firnanda Copyright (c) 2026 Novia Shafa Dwijayanti, Aldi Firnanda https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0 2026-05-30 2026-05-30 251 260 10.19105/ejpis.v2i.24458 Integrating Renewable Energy into Inquiry-Based Physics Instruction to Enhance Higher-Order Thinking Skills: A Theoretical Study https://ejournal.uinmadura.ac.id/index.php/entita/article/view/24440
An This study was motivated by the importance of strengthening students’ Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in physics education relevant to global challenges, particularly the issue of renewable energy. The purpose of this study is to analyze and synthesize research findings related to the integration of inquiry-based physics learning in enhancing students’ HOTS, as well as to identify existing research gaps. The method used was a literature review, analyzing 27 relevant articles using a systematic literature review approach. The results indicate that inquiry-based learning, particularly guided inquiry, is effective in enhancing students’ HOTS, specifically in the areas of critical thinking, conceptual understanding, and active engagement in learning. The research method used is a normative juridical approach. The results of the study indicate that harmonisation of ESD regulations in Indonesia is not optimal. From an international legal perspective, ESD is supported by soft law instruments. While constitutional law implicitly reflects ESD principles, ESD principles have not been systematically institutionalised. Key challenges include weak cross-sectoral coordination, limited institutional capacity, and disparities in implementation across regions. However, there are opportunities for strengthening through global commitments, national policies, technological developments, and multi-stakeholder participation. This study confirms that harmonising ESD policies and regulations is a strategic step in developing sustainable human resources and strengthening national resilience. Therefore, strengthening integrated regulations, improving institutional coordination, and developing human resource capacity are necessary to optimise ESD implementation in Indonesia.
Raesitha Zildjianda Dian Herlambang Copyright (c) 2026 Raesitha Zildjianda, Dian Herlambang https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0 2026-05-30 2026-05-30 279 290 10.19105/ejpis.v2i.24432 The Implementation of the Value of Mutual Cooperation in the Tradition of Grave Almsgiving as an Expression of Peace in the Community of Gempol Village, Cirebon Regency https://ejournal.uinmadura.ac.id/index.php/entita/article/view/24424
In this era of globalisation, the noble values inherited from the ancestors of the Indonesian people are beginning to fade or even disappear; one example is the value of mutual cooperation. In the past, communities always carried out activities for the common good through mutual cooperation, but this has now changed due to the tide of globalisation. However, not all regions have lost the value of mutual cooperation; there are still some areas that continue to uphold it. Gempol Village is one of several villages in Gempol Sub-district, Cirebon Regency, whose community still implements the value of gotong royong in the practice of the grave almsgiving tradition. The aim of this study is to identify the values of gotong royong embodied in the practice of the grave almsgiving tradition. The research method employed in this study is qualitative, utilising an ethnographic approach. The data collection techniques used in this study were observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings revealed that the practice of the grave almsgiving tradition embodies values of mutual cooperation, including solidarity, unity, voluntarism, kinship, self-sacrifice, prioritising the common good over personal interests, and mutual assistance in order to bring about peace in the community of Gempol Village.
Yeti Nurizzati Nindy Praditha Ayu Pertiwi Copyright (c) 2026 Yeti Nurizzati, Nindy Praditha Ayu Pertiwi https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0 2026-05-30 2026-05-30 291 298 10.19105/ejpis.v2i.24424 The Dialectics of Student Well-being in the Free Nutritious Meals Program Policy: The Intersection of Economics and Psychology https://ejournal.uinmadura.ac.id/index.php/entita/article/view/24412
Student well-being is a crucial aspect of education as it influences physical and psychological health, as well as academic achievement. This study analyses the impact of the Free Nutritious Meals Programme (MBG) on student well-being from economic and psychological perspectives. A phenomenological qualitative approach was used to explore the experiences of children and parents from lower-middle-income families through in-depth interviews and observation. The results indicate that the MBG has not yet had a significant economic impact on reducing household expenditure burdens, as there has been no change in consumption patterns or family financial allocation. From a psychological perspective, students’ low acceptance of the food has led to discomfort, rejection, and a tendency towards negative self-perception. These findings underscore that student well-being is dialectical, necessitating a more comprehensive policy evaluation to ensure alignment with students’ needs and experiences.
Ubaidillah Rohim Arinal Haq Fauziah Copyright (c) 2026 Ubaidillah Rohim, Arinal Haq Fauziah https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0 2026-05-30 2026-05-30 299 310 10.19105/ejpis.v2i.24412 Implications of the Cambridge Curriculum for the Development of Analytical Thinking Skills among Seventh-Grade International Class Programme Students in Social Studies Learning https://ejournal.uinmadura.ac.id/index.php/entita/article/view/24556
21st-century education demands highly analytical thinking skills from students, particularly in Social Sciences (IPS) learning, to enable them to logically understand the dynamics of various social problems. Bustanul Huffadz Assaidiyah Sampang, Madura, as a solution for strengthening national resilience in an era of social change through the genealogical approach of Michel Foucault. This study aims to examine Quran memorization as not only a process of memorizing the Quran, but also a medium for shaping disciplined, religious, and productive students. This research employs a qualitative method through library research and observation of Madurese pesantren traditions. The findings reveal three forms of power operating within tahfidz education. First, the pastoral power of the kiai instills religious values, nationalism, love for the homeland, and environmental awareness. Second, pesantren discipline through memorization deposits and communal control forms students who are orderly, responsible, and socially resilient. Third, pesantren biopower regulates students’ daily lives and learning patterns, producing healthy and productive generations. The study also finds that Qur’anic memorization education contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in education, social development, and environmental awareness. Therefore, the tahfidz tradition in Madura can be understood as a soft infrastructure that strengthens ideological, social, economic, and cultural resilience in supporting Indonesia Emas 2045 amid contemporary social transformation.
