Abstract

This study aims to explore and understand students’ experiences in developing academic resilience and reconstructing their learning behaviors through the meaning-making process of the Madurese philosophy Abhântal Ombâ’ Asapo’ Angén from the perspective of KIPAS Counseling. The study employed a qualitative approach with an interpretative phenomenological design. Participants consisted of eight senior high school students selected purposively based on their experiences of academic challenges and two school counselors as supporting informants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). The findings revealed six major themes: (1) academic pressure as a challenge to be confronted; (2) academic resilience as a process of enduring and recovering from difficulties; (3) internalization of the Abhântal Ombâ’ Asapo’ Angén values as a source of academic strength; (4) learning behavior reconstruction through meaning-making processes; (5) the need for developing Madurese culture-based KIPAS Counseling services; and (6) Conceptual Model of Integration of Abhântal Ombâ’ Asapo’ Angén Philosophy in KIPAS Counseling. The findings indicate that the philosophy of Abhântal Ombâ’ Asapo’ Angén is perceived as embodying perseverance, resilience, courage in facing challenges, and persistence, which contribute to strengthening students’ academic resilience and transforming their learning behaviors. This study highlights the potential of Madurese cultural values to be integrated into KIPAS Counseling as a cultural strength resource for fostering academic resilience and supporting students’ learning behavior reconstruction.
